Safe Working and Operational Rescue in Confined and Restricted Spaces

Safe Working and Operational Rescue in Confined and Restricted Spaces

Confined and Restricted Space Training is a professional technical program designed for areas with limited entry and exit points, such as silos, tanks, sewage lines, and wells, where potentially hazardous atmospheric conditions may exist. In accordance with the OHS Law No. 6331 and its bound regulations, it is a legal obligation for personnel working in these areas to receive practical training not only on physical risks but also on atmospheric hazards and emergency rescue protocols. The Arga Safety curriculum is fully compliant with TS 13885 and international norms.

Atmospheric Safety and Gas Measurement Techniques in Confined Spaces

Restricted space operations are high-risk disciplines involving invisible dangers. Our training aims to develop the ability of personnel to detect these hazards within seconds. Within the scope of the curriculum, the use of a multi-gas detector for detecting oxygen deficiency, flammable, and toxic gases (H2S, CO, LEL) and pre-work measurement protocols are prioritized.

In this process, the Permit to Work System (PTW), the watchman hierarchy, and ventilation engineering are detailed. Participants are ensured to use respiratory protective equipment compliant with EN 136 / EN 149 standards and Emergency Escape Breathing Devices (EEBD) at a reflex level during a crisis.

Technical Rescue and Evacuation Strategies in Narrow Spaces

In the practical phase of the training, real field scenarios where physical limits are pushed are practiced. The competencies that are vital in confined space operations are as follows:

  • Rescue Tripod and Winch Systems: Installation of EN 795 standard tripods and evacuation of the casualty from vertical wells (Hoisting).
  • Mechanical Advantage Evacuation: Pulling up or transferring the casualty with 3:1 and 4:1 pulley ratios by minimizing physical force.
  • Evacuation Methods with Stretcher: Packaging of vertical and horizontal rescue stretchers (SKED etc.) suitable for passing through narrow manholes.
  • Suspension Trauma Management: Emergency intervention techniques against physiological risks (Suspension Trauma) experienced by personnel suspended after a fall.
  • Communication and Operational Coordination: Communication discipline and emergency evacuation signals between the personnel inside the confined space and the watchman outside.
